Emulate battery charging with Otii Ace Pro
Emulate battery charging with Otii Ace Pro
Listening to our customers’ challenges and project requirements when designing embedded systems is the compass of our work. Your feedback directly shapes the development roadmap of the Otii Product Suite. Now, you can emulate battery charging!
Our latest FW release for Otii Ace Pro enhances emulation of battery discharging and now includes battery charging! Using this new feature, the developer can develop and verify charging algorithms.
How it works?
For developers working with rechargeable devices, we know one critical challenge is accurately emulating a battery’s discharge and charging phases.
With this update, the Ace Pro seamlessly switches between emulating a battery during discharge and mimicking its behavior during charging, all without user intervention. Whether designing for IoT devices, consumer electronics, or any rechargeable device, this upgrade adds a key layer of testing and validation to your development process.
Here’s how it works:
- In Power Box Mode, Ace Pro acts as though it has a 1-ohm internal resistance, starting to sink current. For each 1mV above set voltage, Ace will start sinking 1mA.
- In Battery Emulation Mode, Ace Pro emulates the internal resistance of the battery profile during both the charging and discharging phases. This means you can verify charging phases, ensuring your circuitry behaves precisely as expected.
This functionality activates automatically. When Ace Pro detects a voltage above the set level, it stabilizes it. This kind of seamless integration simplifies your workflow and enables more precise testing without additional setup.
What does battery charging emulation mean for your engineering team?
This enhancement transforms the approach to battery emulation and validation for hardware and firmware developers and test engineers. No longer limited to discharging scenarios, you can now:
- After connecting a charger, evaluate device performance when DUT exceeds the set voltage limit.
- Test and validate charging algorithms.
- Ensure your charging circuitry works as expected.
By bringing both discharge and charge emulation together, the Ace Pro empowers teams to create low-power electronics designs that are more robust and efficient, reducing development cycles and eliminating higher maintenance costs.
